Florida lands in Site Selection Governor’s Cup Top 10 ranking

Governor Rick Scott announces Florida’s ninth position in magazine’s prestigious Governor’s Cup list

Earlier this week, Governor Rick Scott, announced the state’s top 10 placement in Site Selection magazine’s Governor’s Cup. The Governor’s Cup 2013 ranking is awarded to the states that have the highest numbers of new and expanded corporate facilities. This is the first time Florida, which ranked ninth, has made the list thanks to the state’s steady growth and economic successes in 2013.

Florida’s position on the Governor’s Cup list is a testament to Governor Scott’s dedication to improving the economy, as well as proof that the efforts put forward by his administration and Enterprise Florida – the state’s public-private organization dedicated to economic development – is working. Governor Scott said, “We have worked to streamline regulations, and eliminated the manufacturing equipment sales tax. We have also paid down debt and our workforce is the best in the country. Florida has everything needed to keep businesses thriving and we know it’s working in our state.”

Corporate real estate analysts regard Site Selection’s annual analysis as “the industry scoreboard.” The ranking is tracked by Conway Data’s (CDI) New Plant Database, which focuses on new corporate facility projects with significant impact.

The projects included in the analyses must meet at least one of three criteria:

  • Involve a capital investment of at least US$1 million
  • Create at least 50 new jobs
  • Add at least 20,000 sq. ft. (1,858 sq. m.) of new floor area
