The National Science Foundation has awarded a three-year federal grant in the amount of $214,745 to Rollins College Professor Thomas Moore to support his continued research with undergraduate students in the area of musical acoustics. Moore and his students are collaborating with colleagues at the Institute of Musical Acoustics in Vienna, which has manufactured two special trumpet bells, to prove that the sound of a trumpet is measurably affected by vibrations. The award, part of NSF’s Research in Undergraduate Institutions program, facilitates faculty research at predominantly undergraduate institutions.
